Russia, Northern Europe, Italy and North Africa. Different areas  and cultures and languages. And one common element: being medium. Catalyzing the tensions of the world and society upon themselves,  trying to absorb them and make them visible through the physicality of their artworks.

Medium Media Mediocritas

​

What is suffering? And blood? And death? They call them ultimate questions. Left behind, far away  as an exclusive area belonging to religion. With Medium, media, mediocritas, Gallery Six tries to pour them  into the present. It does so through an  arbitrary act, juxtaposing four artists so different among them that one might be  tempted not to say who they are. Or not to pronounce their first and last names that tend to separate them instead of getting them closer. Dmitrij Prigov. Marc Bijl. Franko B. Hicham Benohoud. Russia, Northern Europe, Italy and North Africa. Different areas  and cultures and languages. And one common element: being medium. Catalyzing the tensions of the world and society upon themselves,  trying to absorb them and make them visible through the physicality of their artworks. Exposing themselves without any protection. Either total or partial. Benohoud with the elderly and the children of his land. Marc Bijl with the simulacrum of himself. Franko B with his own blood. Prigov with his own life, lived as a continuous performance up to the final act.

Medium Media Mediocritas

Cos’è la sofferenza? E il sangue? E la morte? Le chiamano domande ultime. Lasciate in fondo, rese remote come spazio esclusivo della religione. Con Medium, media, mediocritas Galleria Six prova a calarle nel presente. Lo fa con un atto d’arbitrio, mettendo uno accanto all’altro quattro artisti fra loro così diversi che verrebbe voglia di non dire chi sono. Di non pronunciare nomi e cognomi che invece di avvicinare  allontanano. Dmitrij Prigov. Marc Bijl. Franko B. Hicham Benohoud. Russia, Nord Europa, Italia e Nord Africa. Spazi, culture e linguaggi differenti. E un unico elemento comune. L’essere medium. Aver catalizzato su di sé le tensioni del mondo e della società, aver cercato di assorbirle e renderle visibili attraverso la fisicità dell’opera d’arte. Essersi esposti e averlo fatto senza protezione. Né totale né parziale. Benohoud con i vecchi e i bambini della sua terra. Marc Bijl col simulacro di sé. Franko B col proprio sangue. Prigov con la propria vita, condotta come una continua performance fino all’atto finale.
