La Galleria SIX con questa esposizione dedicata a Raquel Maulwurf, continua il suo percorso nell'arte contemporanea internazionale, iniziato da qualche anno con collettive e mostre a tema. L'attenzione nei confronti di questa artista nasce con l'intento di far conoscere l'arte giovane, in particolare quella di coloro che hanno rivolto la loro sensibilita alla memoria storica del `900. L'arte, infatti, riveste sicuramente un ruolo molto importante nel dialogo e nella comprensione dei conflitti attuali, ma e anche una possibilita necessaria per scoprire l'immagine e il percorso di una civilta.

Raquel Maulwurf e un'artista spagnola/olandese che ha studiato in Olanda arti visive e multimedialita ed ha partecipato in Italia ed in altre capitali europee a diverse esposizioni di punta. In febbraio 2009 avra una mostra personale in New York con Frederieke Taylor Gallery. Con le sue opere, che raffigurano e a tratti ingrandiscono le immagini della Guerra in gran parte della Seconda Guerra Mondiale per esempio la serie Fields of ruins/ Trummerfelder: Guernica 26 IV '37 - Nagasaki 9 VIII '45, la serie FLAK/AAA Flugabwehrkanone/Anti-Aircraft Artillery (in tedesco Flugabwehrkanone significa artiglieria antiaerea), la serie ZEPPELIN (i zeppelini furono usati per bombardare Londra nella Prima Guerra Mondiale) e l'ultima serie Going Nuclear, intende lanciare un messaggio sulle gravi prospettive dei rapporti umani e dell'esplosione delle ostilita belliche di oggi e di domani.

I lavori dell'artista sono ingrandimenti con la tecnica della pittura e della grafica di foto storiche d'archivio, in cui i disastri della guerra di ieri e quelli della guerra di oggi si evidenziano in un chiaroscuro palese e malinconico, netto e spaziale, in cui le superfici appaiono come tanti ritagli di ricordi e incubi mai assopiti.

In Galleria sara presentato l'ultimo catalogo monografico ZEPPELIN con un testo di Machteld Leij, critica d'arte.

In trying to formulate for herself an understanding of why mankind is so eager to destroy, Raquel Maulwurf bases her drawings on historical images. These are manipulated in such a way that only the essence of the event remains. The image no longer shows what we see, but that which we know, making current events (environmental disasters, war, urbanization and industrialisation) tangible.

Her recent solo exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam called 'Drawn to Destruction' included several series of works based on this historical material: Trummerfelder/Fields of Ruins, depicting the ruins of cities that were devastated during the Second World War; FLAK/AAA (Flugabwehrkanone/Anti-Aircraft Artillery), depicting nightly attacks during both World Wars, Korea, Vietnam and Iraq; and Zeppelin, portraying the downfall of a World War I phenomenon. In 2008 she started the Going Nuclear series.

Raquel's recent drawings have all been created on mat board. The thickness of the board allows her to brutalise the surface with sharp objects. This way violence is depicted through violence. The surface is scratched open until the paper pulp almost pours out, literally materialising destruction in both subject and method.
