In Lissone Galleria Six by Sebastiano Dell'Arte opens a 400sqm space in Via Carducci 8.  The gallery will open on March 22, 2007 with a solo show by Wolfgang Tillmans.  The exhibition will include works  from the 90s to today by the German photographer, English by adoption.  Touching, evocative works, in which the artist records the evil of living of his own era, a state of profound tiredness and surrender, in which indifference and frigid irony are transformed into distressing lyricism.

 

The sensitivity of the German artist, winner of the Turner Prize in 2000, who grew up in fashion and style magazines, can be seen in the shots that document the life and insecurities of the so-called Mtv Generation, of which the artist has been consecrated as the greatest and most significant interpreter.  However, we should not forget the portraits of the protagonists of the music world such as Damon Albarn, Moby and Aphex Twin, nor the lesser known still lives of leftovers of food and vegetables soaked in a violent atmosphere of death, up to the landscapes where the boundary between photography and painting becomes thinner, making the medium absolutely insignificant.  In Tillmans' work, in fact, the use of the camera is not indispensable, as it becomes only a means through which the artist conveys the meanings and the stories he wants to tell, an artifice to collect remnants of contemporary existences and subplots.

 

It is no coincidence that photographs and Polaroids are often combined with laser prints, prints and newspaper clippings that the artist puts together to form a collage of his very personal vision of reality.  A reality from which he prefers to remain excluded, in which the protagonists of his images try to have an identity, thanks to the help of art, in which Tillmans wishes not to be involved.  His work is characterized by an anti-intellectual charisma both if he focuses on details and if he gives himself to the subtraction of everyday images from the real world, which the artist does not guarantee, implicitly rejecting the idea of documentary.

 

Wolfgang Tillmans was born in Remscheid, Germany in 1968.  After numerous collaborations with fashion and design magazines, he perfected his studies in photography and began to achieve increasing success which earned him the prestigious Turner Prize in 2000.  He has exhibited since 1999 in the most important museum institutions (Tate Liverpool, Kunsthalle in Vienna, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin, Kunsthalle in Hamburg, Museo d'Arte Contemporanea Castello di Rivoli).  He has worked in Berlin, Cologne, London and New York.

 

The exhibition is accompanied by a critical text by Santa Nastro that investigates the artist's work of the last 15 years

Apre a Lissone Galleria Six di Sebastiano Dell'Arte uno spazio di 400mq in Via Carducci 8. La galleria inaugurerà il 22 marzo 2007 con la personale di Wolfgang Tillmans. La mostra comprenderà gli scatti realizzati dagli anni '90 ad oggi dal fotografo tedesco, inglese d'adozione. Opere toccanti, evocative, in cui l'artista registra il male di vivere della propria epoca, uno stato di profonda stanchezza ed arrendevolezza, in cui indifferenza e frigida ironia si trasformano in angosciante lirismo.

La sensibilità dell'artista tedesco, vincitore del Turner Prize nel 2000, cresciuto negli ambienti della moda e delle riviste di stile si evince dagli scatti che documentano la vita e le insicurezze della cosiddetta Mtv Generation, di cui l'artista è stato consacrato come maggiore e più significativo interprete. Tuttavia non sono da dimenticare i ritratti dei protagonisti del mondo della musica quali Damon Albarn, Moby e Aphex Twin né i meno noti still life di avanzi di cibo ed ortaggi intrisi di una violenta atmosfera di morte, fino ai paesaggi in cui il limite tra fotografia e pittura si assottiglia, rendendo assolutamente insignificante il mezzo. Nell'opera di Tillmans infatti, non è indispensabile l'utilizzo della macchina fotografica, che diviene unicamente un tramite attraverso il quale l'artista veicola i significati e le storie che vuole raccontare, un artificio per collezionare scampoli di esistenze e sottotrame della contemporaneità.

Non a caso alle fotografie, alle polaroid spesso vengono accostate laser print, stampe, ritagli di giornale che l’artista mette insieme a formare un collage della sua personalissima visione della realtà. Una realtà dalla quale preferisce rimanere escluso, in cui i protagonisti delle sue immagini cercano di farsi ritagliare addosso, grazie all’ausilio dell’arte, un’identità, in cui Tillmans desidera non essere coinvolto. La sua opera si caratterizza per un carisma antiintellettuale sia se si concentra sui dettagli, sia se si dà alla sottrazione di immagini della quotidianità al mondo reale, di cui l’artista non si fa garante, rifiutando lmplicitamente l’idea di documentario.

Wolfgang Tillmans è nato a Remscheid, Germania nel 1968. Dopo numerose collaborazioni con riviste di moda e design, ha perfezionato gli studi di fotografia e ha cominciato ad ottenere un successo crescente che gli ha fatto conquistare nel 2000 il prestigioso Turner Prize. Ha esposto dal 1999 nelle più importanti istituzioni museali (Tate Liverpool, Kunsthalle di Vienna, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo di Torino, Kunsthalle di Amburgo, Museo d'Arte Contemporanea Castello di Rivoli). Ha lavorato a Berlino, Colonia, Londra e New York.La mostra e' accompagnata da un testo critico di Santa Nastro che indaga  il lavoro dell'artista degli ultimi 15 anni.
