ANGELO MOSCA: "ME E PIRANDELLO"

Galleria Six is pleased to announce "Me and Pirandello", an exhibition of Angelo Mosca, an artist who looks at the main and contradictory aesthetic and social changes of our time, without denying his cultural roots. The exhibition originates from a former meeting so much wanted and yearned for, a definite and not fortitous appointment in the studio of the painter Fausto Pirandello (Rome, 1899-1975) in Rome, current home of Fausto Pirandello Foundation. On this occasion,  some pastels, executed by the artist in the late forties and early fifties have been selected. In this exhibition, Mosca's works dialogue with Pirandello's pastels, both witnesses of an Italian tradition rooted in contemporary international pictorial language. All the many historical events occurred in the long span of time that separates Mosca and Pirandello lead us to think about the current critical function of art, as well as  about the necessity to rethink the position of the artist himself. A catalog of the exhibition with a critical essay by Michele Tocca will be available. Angelo Mosca was born in Chieti in 1961. He lives and works in Ortona, London and Milan. He got his degree in Communication and Sociology  He began to exhibit in the nineties. In 2009 he founded  Gallery / Gallery in Ortona, a critical  nonprofit space, crossroads of artists, thinkers and poets. In 2013 he starts the collective experience "The artist in the system and his time" at Castel di Ieri, near L'Aquila. His solo exhibitions include: "Genesis of a Painting", at Yellow, an artist-run space, Varese, 2017; Lorenzo Vatalaro Gallery, Milan, 2014; Spazio Cabinet, Milan, 2011 (with Gianni Caravaggio and Michele Tocca); MARS, Milan, 2010; Annarumma 404, Naples, 2003 and 2007; Wendy Cooper Gallery, Chicago, 2006; Federico Luger Gallery, Milan, 2005; Modern Culture, New York, 2004; Jan Wagner Gallery, Berlin; Galleria Guido Carbone, Turin, 1996. In 2007, on the occasion of the third edition of the Prague Biennale, he was appointed curator  of the "Italian Painting" pavilion,  created by Mosca himself. In 2015, with Michele Tocca, he was the curator of  the exhibition at the Casino dei Principi of Villa Torlonia, Rome, and of the book titled "Italian Painting ... and other minor stories" which was subsequently presented at the Milan Triennale.

ANGELO MOSCA: "ME E PIRANDELLO"

 

La mostra inizia a partire da un incontro voluto e cercato, un appuntamento preciso e non casuale, nello studio del pittore Fausto Pirandello (Roma, 1899-1975) a Roma, attuale sede della Fondazione Fausto Pirandello, dove sono stati selezionati alcuni pastelli, eseguiti dall'artista tra la fine degli anni Quaranta e i primi anni Cinquanta.  In mostra, le opere di Mosca sono esposte in dialogo con i pastelli di Pirandello. I molteplici avvenimenti storici intercorsi nel lungo lasso di tempo che separa Mosca e Pirandello portano a riflettere sull'attuale funzione critica dell'arte, come anche sulla necessità di un ripensamento della posizione dell'artista stesso. In occasione della mostra è edito un catalogo curato da Angelo Mosca e Chiara Bertoni, con un testo critico di Michele Tocca. Angelo Mosca, nato a Chieti nel 1961, vive e lavora tra Ortona (CH), Londra e Milano. Laureato in comunicazione e sociologia, inizia a esporre negli anni Novanta. Nel 2009 fonda a Ortona Galleria/Galleria, spazio critico no-profit, crocevia di artisti, pensatori e poeti. Nel 2013 avvia l'esperienza collettiva “L'artista nel sistema e il suo tempo" presso Castel di Ieri (AQ). Tra le mostre personali si annoverano: “Genesi di una Pittura”, Yellow, artist-run space, Varese, 2017; Galleria Lorenzo Vatalaro, Milano, 2014; Spazio Cabinet, Milano, 2011 (con Gianni Caravaggio e Michele Tocca); MARS, Milano, 2010; Annarumma 404, Napoli, 2007 e 2003; Wendy Cooper Gallery, Chicago, 2006; Federico Luger Gallery, Milano, 2005; Modern Culture, New York, 2004; Jan Wagner Gallery, Berlin; Galleria Guido Carbone, Torino,1996.  Un approccio verso l'arte non solo da artista ma anche da curatore e propulsore del dibattito; Nel 2007, in occasione della terza edizione delle Biennale di Praga, cura il padiglione “Pittura Italiana “ da lui stesso ideato. Nel 2015, con Michele Tocca, cura la mostra al Casino dei Principi di Villa Torlonia, Roma, e l'omonimo volume “Pittura Italiana ...e altre storie minori”, successivamente presentato alla Triennale di Milano.
